Texas Monthly does a roundup of the top 25 BBQ joints in Texas every four years. If you made the list, you’re in the upper echelons of Texas BBQ, if not worldwide.

Yet, there is someone out there who doesn’t like BBQ at all. A repelling thought, indeed.

The Dark Knight, a Christoper Nolan masterpiece starring Christian Bale as the Batman and Heath Ledger as the Joker is arguably one of the best movies of the last 25 years. This article even says so.

Yet, it only has a 94% critics and 94% audience Rotten Tomato Score. That means 6% of the critics and 6% of the fans did not have anything positive to say about the movie. Unfathomable…

Here’s the point: you’re not for everybody.

Not everyone will like you, enjoy your content, or appreciate your personality. And that’s okay - it’s supposed to be that way.

With 8 billion people on the planet, each with a unique set of predispositions and tastes, there would have to be a glitch in the system for everyone to be in agreement about any one topic, let alone you.

Some of the greatest works of literature like The Iliad, I find hard to get through.

Some of the best music of all time like David Bowie, I can’t stand. And don’t get me started on The Labyrinth.

One of the biggest and best pickle manufacturers is right up the road from us, Best Maid Pickles. Guess what? I’m not the biggest fan of pickles, although I would love to support local.

There’s even top models in the world that are objectively attractive and good looking people. However, they’re not going to appeal to everyone.

We each have our own tastes and attractions. So here’s your permission to keep being yourself.

Continue making your BBQ, creating your movie, writing your Iliad. If you keep showing up authentically and putting yourself out there, your tribe will find you.

Keep in mind not everyone will like your work, some might even hate it. Just remember that’s how it’s supposed to be, so don’t be surprised when the critics come. Consider what they say, but don’t take it all to heart.

And remember…there’s someone out there who doesn’t like a smoked Texas brisket.
